It came upon me again. A simple request to a friend of mine in Robinson’s Bacolod, for him to identify a Font, became a full blown review of life and the philosophy that I will call “One Life to Live“. (you can go to the end to watch a video i remember about it.)
I have a crazy bunch of logo on paper and was wandering around to find some people in Victory Bacolod City. This Logo had an interesting history. I started this logo while I was in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates when I planned to do something about it. Now, in a turn of events, it instantly resurrected without losing its relevance, ignoring the Fact of its 4337 miles of difference – distance that contrasts the dry humid dessert to the leafy grassy and colorful tropical environ. Well, what is heavy for me is, the effort of changing it, and its impact to people who have been accustomed to it, whether in Dubai or Bacolod.
Identify a Font
The Logo that I made from a long time was done in Adobe Photoshop, a software that allows you to edit photos in any format, the most common of which is jpg. You can create a collage of photos and texts into one file, usually Psd, the Photoshop file format. Now, I lost the original file. . .and I can’t figure out the text I used, – crucial information that I need because one tenet of Graphic Design is to be consistent – use only one text all through out your layout. You should also limit colors in your Graphic Campaign to the least number of colors. I used none (black and white) Showing my Logo and Poster should have some talk, he called me to his office. Then came the Deliberation.
The Design Deliberation
We started on the pros and cons of the Logo, then we took two steps back. We reviewed the Poster and its contents, and what made my poster good or bad. Again, two steps back, we talked about the Seminar I was starting and the things I was preparing with it: Id’s, Ballers, T-shirt, Tags. . .the whole lot. So we looked at the bigger picture: “What am I trying to accomplish?” This lead to a relevant question of what is my purpose?
Well, it was a long discussion and what it all came to? It was leading to a point that I had a good clear career direction in Architecture and would have a nice credibility about it while, starting up on a different path like Sales Training and Marketing would not be a strong point. I gasped at the conclusions.
I also understood its significance: venturing out into this new arena would be a handicap for me considering that, although it has been a burning interest and passion for me, I had never really been outspoken about it. I was just led to think about my life and my purpose and how God may be leading. . . this way or the opposite.
I also know I have dreamed about this. I want this. I live for this!
I was also made aware that, for the things we aspire for, we will have consequences and ramifications. I also have to deal with it. One of the higher roads is to stay in Architecture. Because the logical repercussion is that because I have not lived in Sales Training and Marketing, I will try to build integrity in this feild, build and face the fact that I was not here, that I am new and that I will have much explaining to make. In any way, a road leads to two paths, and time will tell its destiny.
What I respect about the higher road is that it is build in character. It builds trust over time. And is won through the person’s moral fiber – a life without duplicity. It is the same bearing with the man who has stood the test of time with his marriage. Sticking with the Love of his life and through his promise of eternality.
For now, I can make rationalizations about both paths. One thing is certain: we will have divergent paths in our lives and we can not stay in static. We will have to choose. We will have to make turns. We will make life revisions.
I remember Warren Buffet in his quote that life is like working with stocks. “We should live life (work with stocks) not like most stock brokers – moving up and down through the waves of inconsistency and indecision, blown away by the wind. We should live life as if we only have four decision. If we live with four decisions, we will think through each of our decisions more thoroughly“.
(In statistics from Millionaire Mind, they say that more successful millionaires make fewer and yet more solid decisions. Time proves its worth as they gain wealth instead of a thousand deposits and withdrawals)
Disclaimer: I am not in any way discouraging or pushing for Day Trading or Buy and Hold, I’m just saying that we only get to live life ones, we should give more thought into living it well.
