Taking Time to Smell the Flowers

Most of my life it feels is about measuring up and being ahead of everyone else. The problem isn’t that I’m not brilliant but that its hard to be the most promising entrepreneur, the budding architect-designer and the successful man-in-relationship.

I just heard from a podcast that life just happens. Our best laid plans fire away. It is easy to be tough on yourself and beat yourself up for not succeeding this time.

As I take this long walk home at 12:30am, I discover that there is so much love along the way. This new home away from home. I have cared about things and achievements for far too long. I’ve passed this site where once stood a very frustrated, angry and lost man. I saw my first day of work and all the insecurities of trying to look good and manipulating people; the fear of missing out in my life. And the elusive “red haired girl” (the mythical bond queen in Caucasian circles). Hehehe. I could just laugh at how unfair I’ve been trying to put the highest standard when I was just simply, afraid.

Tonight as I pass this once mud and steel bones, now structures of pretty glass and teeming with landscape, I remember there was so much love all along: friends, funy memories and a thousand laughs. I was just busy.

Busy.

Busy.

Too busy to smell the flowers and feel the wind. To laugh with friends abd to love them. To cherish my workmates, victory group, crushes. ❤. And just be there! Experience fulness of life.

I was crazy trying to be someone so other people could accept me more. 🙂 I have to be blind that only I am missing that I am overflowing. Feeling empty looking for myself out there with something to fill the void. Blind to see that I was full all along. Take time to smell the flowers. . .

(Quick post by mobile. I’ll be editing html tommorrow)

How to Catch Myself in Approval Seeking and Validation

A few weeks ago, I went out for some personal evaluation as the year 2017 comes to an end. After a few notes, I am suddenly aware that most of my effort is to maintain approval, seek validation of a group of people I’m not even close to. I was seeking validation.

Iloilo-Bacolod Fastcraft and Ship Travel Schedule 2017

Cebu Adventure on the Highest Seas and Badian

Guimaras Adventure on the Highest Seas

The city of Iloilo has become on of the must-visit places in the country. With the growth of its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO – Call Center industry) and the blossoming of its coastal river paradise, it has become a magnetic attractor of tourist. I have seen it grow from my arrival here at 2014, with over  20 couples from Manila and all over the country relocating here. All for good reason.

A stone’s throw away from Iloilo is Bacolod City, an equally majestic city with a pampering slow-paced life, delicious pastries and international gourmet cooking – from Italian Pastas, Japanese Restaurants, Korean Dining and Asian – Thai, Singaporean and Local cuisine. Bacolod is also home to the Art and Fashion Scene, Indie Film, Cars and lots of drinking, the life.

Logistics and Proximity

Since the 5-min plane flight from the old Iloilo Airport, there are no direct flights from Iloilo to Bacolod. But the twin cities is just separated by 44km of sea. The fastest most convenient and practical option is by fastcraft ferry.

So to say that this city is 1 hour and 20 minutes away from Iloilo is heaven-sent!

Travelling Bacolod-Iloilo

The Iloilo Fastferry Terminal is located in Lapuz along the river. From Iloilo City Proper find that jeepneys that ply to Lapuz – confirm that they pass to the “Bacolod Pier” as some jeepneys do not go this route.

On the other hand, the Bacolod Fastferry Terminal is in Downtown Reclaimation area near the SM Complex. From the Bacolod City Plaza, you can walk to the Manokan Country area where tricycles ride passengers to the pier for P10 for a group of 5 people.

A prayer of Thanksgiving

Then the word came again to me:

“Before I formed you in the womb, Ian, I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Jer1:5

Ian, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.
Jer 31:3

Lord thank you that before I was born, you have set me apart. You know me when I was conceived in my mother’s womb. You breathed me life and set me out into the world.

Lord thank you that you have watched over my life through challenges and even dangers, you were keeping me for something special.

Lord thank you that you have been loving me for a thousand years. You prepared all my teachers, friends and mentors. And then I met you Jesus.

Thank you that through the ups and downs of my life your love has never waned. Thank you for inviting me into your family. Thank you for preparing a feast before me and dine in your presence.

Thank you Jesus.

What Would I Do if you’d be given P100M (2M USD)?

Archian - Life, Bacolod, Architecture, Finances & Dubai

What Would I Do if you’d be given P100M (2M USD)?

630pm.

After a talk with my boss, I am off to the center to have our regular Group Meetings. I just came in time to answer a million dollar question. In fact 2 Million Dollars! The question was “What would you do if you’d be given P100M?”

Greed, money corrupts easily

Greed, money corrupts easily

I answered that 100M could be deadly. It could destroy you. Only a fear of God and key relationships could keep you in check. There’s just too much turbulence when you get to that altitude and that a fall is certain for majority of us. Come to think of it, as great as it is, this is the first time money this huge is suddenly thrust upon us.

After a long pause I give my answer.

For one, many people would have their answers and depending on your opinion they could say this one is better . . . So I thought what do I really want?

I answered “I would like to take the first 2 weeks on a solo journey of reflection.”

Then I’d come back to spend time with my family. Then I’d show them my plans to buy land in three islands:
1. Palawan (1500sq.m. along beachfront ) P8M for land and 12M for a Room rental Property.

Well, I guess the rest would be used for paying employees for reception and butlers etc. 🙂

I still think the question was not written on the Group discussion material. But for a few moments I started to dream. How would life feel like if I were limitless? What dreams would I pursue. The truth is, I have one life to live. And these dreams are not far from impossible. Do you know that God has given you everything you need so you can succeed? Take note of that feeling when you dream because you will need to remember that when challenging times come to test your character.

And so the rest of the group answered. One wanted to buy stocks, another wanted 4 chicks and a mansion, another will buy nuclear warheads and target the ISIS. Still another said he would buy roses and share world peace for all mankind.

Ikaw, how would you spend if you were given that money?

And what dreams are you throwing away? Is it possible that you’d for once start believing its possible?

Because it is!

If you have plans to build a Resort, a Rental House, why don’t you ask for it? If you have land waiting to be developed? Next step is to find a partner a designer or architect that will translate these dreams to reality. For more information, contact Arch Ian Jay Bantilan.

Cebu Adventure on the Highest Seas and Badian

Cebu Adventure on the Highest Seas and Badian

Coming from the independence day holidays, we took our trip to Cebu and its many wonders. I am so blessed to have all major destinations in Cebu, which are hours apart by land travel visited in the course of 2 days. To cap my trip, I preferred a roll-on-roll-off (RORO) trip back to Bacolod City.

After navigating to the Terminals, I want to share the travel information with everyone plying this routes.

Cebu City North Bus Terminal and South Bus Terminal.

As in any metro cities, Cebu has 2 terminals – one for south bound, Cebu South Terminal and another for north bound, Cebu North Bus Terminal. The South terminal is highly developed with air-conditioned waiting spaces. The waiting area and concierge is on a U shaped structure around the bus loading zone. The smaller North Terminal is open air with waiting areas on a linear strip surrounded by the buses.

The Cebu North Bus Terminal is on Mandaue City, Cebu while the Cebu South Bus Terminal is on Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City, Cebu.

Today I meet a legend.

I usually save 15% of salary. That is here in the Philippines. That goes negative from December to January. When IU worked aborad I reached 45%.

I have never met anyone except for some Chinese friends who are really extreme. But tonight, I was surprised to find someone who save so much. And I thought I was already thrifty.

Some spoilers:
She’s single.
She walks home.
She has provincial allowance (Manila hired to work here)
And she has a considerable amount in stocks.
But I have never seen her in fancy clothes.
Very low profile indeed!

1. Anything is possible. It is common that budget adjust with salary. It doesn’t have to.
2. We have to live in our own reality. You-me-different.
3. It’s important to know what you want and attack it with passion. No one will force you to do what you don’t want.

Now, I’m asking, how much are you saving monthly? (as a percentage of your income)
