Legacy of Prayer: My Grandmother

Guilerma Lubrico: Legacy of a Praying Grandmother

Prayer in my Family

I grew up having Saturday night devotions by my faithful mom, teaching me stories of faith and faithfulness, patterned after the Fundamental Baptist tradition. This is usually capped of by individual prayer.

Growing up, my prayers are usually a great way to indulge my creativity: awesome words, spoken in english, throwing in a few vocabulary and word list, (I still didn’t know poetry, but recognized the power these words have in shaping my perspective). As I left to study in Manila, it was also a time when I glimpse my parents have a 20 minute prayer on the dining table. What an expression of restraint on appetite! Nevertheless, my mom still loved sweets and my dad loved good food. But what I was to know is that I had someone in my family who’s got regular guards of 12-foot angels on all sides at all times. And how could she not? She prays a lot. My parents devotion and faith are an overflow from hers!

Generational Faith

I am reminded of the Scripture in 2 Timothy 1 :1-5 . And my favorite amplified version.

I thank God Whom I worship with a pure conscience, in the spirit of my fathers, when without ceasing I remember you night and day in my prayers,

And when, as I recall your tears, I yearn to see you so that I may be filled with joy.

I am calling up memories of your sincere and unqualified faith (the leaning of your entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), a faith that first lived permanently in [the heart of] your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am fully persuaded, dwells in you also.

That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the gracious gift of God, the inner fire that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands with those of the elders at your ordination.

Faith is not static. It’s dynamic. Most times, the kids catch the fire. The grandchildren catch the fire. In this passage, it started with Lois, in my case, my Grandmother Guilerma Lubrico, then passed on to my parents and then to me.

Things that happen when my Folks pray:

1. Unexplainable energy, strength, peace and well being.

“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

2. Angels lend you a helping hand.

Your words have power. They can bring life or tear others down.

Words spoken in relationship with Jesus – have authority. “All authority in Heaven and on Earth. . .”

3. Curses or Bondages can be broken.

4. Deadly Consequences of Sin can be delayed. (Eventually you will still reap what you sow, but God’s Judgement is held on.

Amos 7 “God heard the prayer and did not bring the judgment on the people.”

Genesis  – Abraham Pleads for Sodom and God gave his request. But there was not enough righteous people that Abraham requested. Nevertheless, God spared Lot (Abraham’s relative).

I am not saying that my family is perfect. On the contrary, we have a lot of disfunction and imperfections. And what I am thankful for is that maybe, through this disfunction, my dad and mom realized the curse and disgrace of a broken family and seek to build a strong foundation.

Prophetic Word for 2013

Generals International: Prophetic Word for 2013

Generals of Intercession

“As prophets, it is always wise to go back and look at the words we have given in the past. We did this for the years 2011-12. Of course, let us reiterate, timing of the words should be understood more as a season than a calendar year. The words given are not fate or karma but can be changed subject to how God’s people respond.

2011: The Year of the Perfect Storm
In 2011, we prophesied the perfect storms. We have certainly had those. The word was given of greater earthquakes, floods, and severe weather patterns of all kinds.

These all happened – in February, a winter storm of historic proportions, according to the National Weather Service; a catastrophic tornado outbreak in April; hurricane Irene in August, the sixth costliest storm in U.S. history at $16 billion.

2012: The Year of Shakings

In looking at the word given for 2012, we saw that it was not only incredibly accurate, but still includes the season we are moving into with more shakings to come. We saw an intensifying of nature responding to our sin. The year broke U.S. heat records, bringing drought and the U.S. government declared it the second-worst in U.S. history for “extreme” weather such as hurricanes, droughts or floods, according to CNN. CNN also reported that hurricane Sandy caused an estimated $80 billion in damage to New York and New Jersey alone. For this reason, we are going to attach it to this Word of the Lord for 2013.

Fasting Your Way to Success. Does it really Work? Part 1

Archian - Life, Bacolod, Architecture, Finances & DubaiFasting Your Way to Success. Does it really Work?

Me and a lot of my friends are corporately going to fast here in Bacolod City. Probably 300 of us, some from one-meal-days to liquid-and-water- only for 7 days.

Why? We have different answers. We have our reasons, some for health, but most of us are Fasting our Way to a Successful Year.

This is not about hitting yourself on the back like in April (Penitence – it’s much too early for that and we definitely have not lost our sense of time) I believe Fasting is a Time of connecting to a Higher Greater Being knowing that for Continue reading

Fasting Your Way to Success. Does it really Work? Part 2

Bob Rogers told this story. “I used to be a wrestler. I learned about wrestling because I lived in the worst part of town. So I wrestled in a 95-pound-weight class. Then next year, I wrested at the 103 pound weight class, the next year I moved to 112 and the next year I have one state in a University in a 139 pound weight class. I went on and on and tried out for the Olympic Team. Then one year, as I was training I changed to 154-weight class. I gained some weight to make it to that weight.”

In that level, there were guys that weight at 175 pounds and they pulled down and competed on 154 pounds. It was a lot tougher at 154 so the next year I lost weight and Continue reading

Fasting Your Way to Success. Does it really Work? Part 3

Archian - Life, Bacolod, Architecture, Finances & DubaiFasting Your Way to Success. Does it really Work? (3rd and Final of 3 Parts)

I am speaking tonight a Prophetic Word for some people in this room. “You have a desire to serve God and when you’re around the fire you are very very hot. But when you go to the market place, you got areas of your life that you have some weaknesses. Now if you don’t learn how to add fasting as the disciplines in your life.

You’ll fall into sin. Your wife will leave you. There will be an adulterous situation that will take place.

“Every person take heed lest they fall.”

Fasting and the Word

Fasting and the Word

There is an empowerment that comes when people Fast that doesn’t come in any other way. Fasting doesn’t take the place of reading the Bible. But the word of God take the place of Fasting. There is the Power of the Holy Ghost! But if you don’t give, I don’t care how much you Speak in Tongues. So the Holy Ghost doesn’t take the place of giving, and Continue reading

25 Teach Me to Pray: Praying People are Warriors الناس يصلون ووريورز

Lesson Twenty-Five:  Praying People are Warriors

Two hundred forty-five times in two hundred thirty-five verses of Scripture God is described as the “Lord of Hosts,” which means the “Lord of heaven’s army.”

John described Jesus as a warrior when he wrote, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work” (1 John 3:8).

Jesus sends us as warriors into the work of His kingdom when He said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you” (John 20:21).

We might say that Jesus is in the “building and wrecking business.” He is wrecking the devil’s kingdom, and He is building Continue reading

Section 5: People Who Pray
Lesson Twenty-Six:  Praying People Share Christ

Until Argentine-American revivalist Edgardo Silvoso coined the words and wrote the book Prayer Evangelism, some assumed that praying people rarely shared their faith and that evangelists rarely prayed. We’ve discovered that’s not the case at all. People who pray for the lost are rarely reluctant to share the gospel with them. And people who share the gospel with those who are lost typically pray fervently for them! Thankfully Ed Silvoso’s insightful concepts concerning Continue reading
